My Review:I've made it no secret that the Chicagoland Vampires is one of my most favorite series ever. But even with that, I was surprised at how emotional I got when I started this book and started seeing all the familiar names from that series. Reading this book was like coming home and I was not disappointed by the homecoming.
So, what is the setup with this series? Elisa is Merit and Ethan's 23 yo daughter. She's been living in Paris for the last four years, but she's really been hiding from home and the secret that she's keeping from everyone. That secret is easier to control when she's not in Chicago.
The only person who knows about the truth about her secret is Connor, the son of the shifter pack alpha...YES!! The two of them have always had a fairly contentious relationship and Elisa hates that Connor is the one who knows her secret. But she's only going to be in Chicago for a couple of weeks. She can keep everything contained during that time...at least that's what she thinks.
OMG, did I mention how excited I am about this series? This first book set up all the relationships perfectly. There's so much underlying all the interactions between Connor and Elisa and it's so, so sexy. There's so much anticipation there. I cannot wait! But there's also Mallory's daughter who's still trying to overcome the blight that her mother's magic left in Chicago. As a result, she's turned her back on magic. These three friends have grown up together and as the story evolves, they become a team...OMG, I love that!!
Everything about this story made me happy and I can see that I'm going to love this series just as much (if not more) than I did the first. I love the dynamics and the chemistry and the wonderful friendship between these three. There's a new feel to Chicagoland and I can't wait to see where Chloe Neill takes the newest generation.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest and voluntary review.

Wild Hunger An Heirs of Chicagoland Novel Book 1 eBook Chloe Neill Reviews
I really enjoyed this new spin off of the Chicagoland vampires series. At first the switch was a little jarring and I struggled to fall into the story. I know the author didn’t want to info dump on us, but a few things felt a little stilted and awkward at the beginning. After the bumpy phase passed and the story progressed, I was as immersed as I normally am with the Chicagoland books. I’m really looking forward to the twist on a favorite series and getting to know the new characters better. I wish the ending had been a bit longer. There were a few issues that were glossed over and not expanded on enough for my taste. I really like both Connor and a Elisa and can’t wait to see how their paths unfold. I also like the new secondary characters and look forward to seeing what’s in store for Lulu, Riley, Theo, and Petra. I would recommend this book to anyone who’s read the Chicagoland books.
I wish the book had more of the characters from the original Chicagoland Vampires in it. I expected Merit and Ethan's daughter would have more of Merits snarkiness. And I would have liked to have seen her parents and their friends stepping up to help her solve what was going on. Then in the second book concentrate more on Elisa and Conner working on their relationship.
I call this a companion series because it is about the legacy of Merit and Ethan, et al. We are introduced to a grown up Elisa, their daughter and only born vampire ever and her childhood nemesis, Connor, the son of the Alpha, Gabriel Keene. A lot of the old folks are here; their parents, Merit the Sentinel of Cadogan house and Ethan Sullivan, the Master of Cadogan house. Malik, who now has his own house, Kelly who is the head of security, Marion who still puts out a wonderful spread to feed them all, and many others. Which was a good thing to do. They are a part of the story, but not the leads to the story.
Watching Elisa continue to grow up, as she still has a lot of growing up to do, is actually a joy. She has been away overseas in France for 4 years and has become part of a house there for a year of service. They are here to try to figure out how to create the same peace Chicago has in Europe. They have many problems to overcome so this is something to watch. It brought Elisa home, but can it keep her here or will she go back to France?
Of course the Faeries have a different plan. Their interference creates all kinds of new problems, and with different people running the OMB, since Merit's grandfather retired, they have to learn who they can trust. They meet Theo and Petra who work for the OMB, and Yeun, who is basically the Associate Ombudsman of the OMB under Ombudsman Dearborn, who is a real d**che So Elisa has to try to work with the changes that have been wrought in her absence. Trouble is brewing in Chicago and between Elisa and Connor, they have to figure out what is happening and what can be done to fix it.
We are all also waiting to see if there is really a budding romance happening between these two childhood enemies. They fought tooth and nail as kids. Will they recognize the differences in each other enough to develop a relationship? I find myself hoping so. They fit, as is so often the case between two well-liked protagonists.
This book was a pretty good start and I am definitely looking forward to the series continuation. The only drawback was the completion of the problem in Chicago. They brought too many things to an end which begs the question; what's next?
Very well done, Chloe Neill! I'm very happy that I'm going to enjoy the companion series as much (or so it seems so far!) as the parent series.
